Founder Story

Uud

Growing up with love that stayed

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Uud. I'm one of the founders of Kitama.

What was love like for you growing up?

It was steady. I didn't grow up questioning whether I was cared for. Love showed up through consistency, especially within my family.

You've mentioned that your sister used to create birthday stories for you. Can you tell us about that?

Every year, starting when I was seven, my sister would write a story for my birthday. It was about the year I had just lived. Sometimes it was funny, sometimes very simple. It captured who I was at that moment, without trying to add anything extra.

How do those stories feel to you now?

They change over time. The older I get, the more I notice details I didn't see before. I remember how carefree I was, how awkward I could be, and how closely I was being watched in a loving way.

Was there a moment when you became more aware of their value?

Yes, quietly. There was a period when the website where those stories were stored became inaccessible because the domain wasn't continued. I eventually found my way back to them, but that brief uncertainty stayed with me.

What did that moment make you think about?

It made me realize how temporary access can be, even when the memories themselves feel permanent. It wasn't dramatic, but it was enough to make me pause.

Did that reflection influence how you think about memory now?

Yes. It made me more aware that some things deserve intention if we want them to last.

How did that awareness shape Kitama?

Kitama grew from that understanding. It's designed as a place where moments can accumulate quietly and become more meaningful over time, rather than getting lost or pushed aside.

Who do you hope will use Kitama?

People who want to return to their stories. Parents who want to leave something thoughtful for their children. Families who want to keep the small, ordinary moments.

This comes from the point of view of someone who received love and later understood its impact. When someone takes the time to remember you, to notice your changes, your habits, your small jokes, it stays with you. Years later, you don't just remember the moment—you remember how it felt to be seen.

Not everyone grows up with that experience, but anyone can create it. You can be the one who tells the story.

For the people you love.

It can be in celebrations.

For a younger sibling.

For your child.

But in quiet days, in small routines.

A short note after school.

A coffee conversation that meant more than it seemed at the time. Those moments may feel ordinary now, but years later they become proof of care. They remind someone that they were paid attention to, that they mattered, even when life felt simple or confusing.

That's what I hope Kitama helps make possible. A way for people to hold onto those moments, so that ten or twenty years from now, someone can look back and recognize how deeply they were loved.

What does Kitama represent to you personally?

It represents care over time.

If you had to describe Kitama in one sentence?

It's a place where memories are given time to grow.
